37k Mile Survivor: 1994 Plymouth Sundance Duster

The Plymouth Sundance and Dodge Shadow were variants of the successful Chrysler K-Cars. They were economical automobiles that were perhaps a bit sportier in appearance than the FWD Horizon and Omni. You could dress up a Sundance by specifying the Duster option, resurrecting a successful Plymouth name from the 1970s. This 1994 “Duster” has a 3.0-liter OHC V6 and is in excellent condition at just 37,500 miles. But will it fetch $9,995 at the dealer near Altoona, Pennsylvania, and here on craigslist? Thanks for the cool tip, Barn Finder “Mpower”!

You could buy a Sundance or Shadow between 1987 and 1994, after which Chrysler moved on to the Neon (same name sold at both dealers). Both cars used a variation of the K-Car platform known as the P-body and – whether you went with a 3-door or 5-door – all models were hatchbacks. This configuration provided loads of storage capacity, especially for the size of the vehicles. On the Sundance, the Duster option was added in 1992 and gave the car a bit of a performance edge with its V6 power in a light product.

Besides a beefier engine, the Duster also got gold allow wheels (or covers?) and special graphics, all of which added about $2,000 to the cost of the base Sundance. The car could never be mistaken for a 1970-76 Duster, especially the hot Duster 340. Plymouth cranked out more than a half million Sundancer’s alone, with the 1994 3-door seeing nearly 217,000 copies (we don’t know how many of them were Dusters).

Since a dealer is involved, the history of this ’94 Duster isn’t reported. It certainly looks great and has been well taken care of and not abused. We’re told it has been “meticulously serviced” but we don’t know if a paper trail follows this. Or how many prior owners were involved? This Plymouth has an automatic transmission, so it’s probably less perky than a 5-speed manual transmission would be. If you want to see more photos of this black/champagne Sundance, you can click here for extra pics (although we can’t find them).

It’s no longer listed on their web site. Probably sold and they neglected to remove the ad from Craigslist.
